About Us
Speedsport - motor sport specialists
Established in 1978 by Managing Director, Mike O'Brien, Speedsport has an enviable reputation as one of the most knowledgeable and trusted companies in the business.
Originally a vehicle for Mike's own motor racing ambitions, Speedsport now encompasses a whole range of different motor sport orientated divisions including race preparation, corporate hospitality, driver management, distribution of tesa tapes, and more recently our beautiful art gallery.
After a successful race driving career through the late 1970s and 1980s which saw success in FF2000, F3, Sports 2000 [1983 British Champion] and Touring cars [winner in Holden Commodore], Mike retired from driving to concentrate on the race team and hospitality areas of his business.
Mike's expertise has shaped the careers of drivers such as Andy Priaulx, Darren Manning, Darren Turner and Callum MacLeod, all of whom have driven for Speedsport with great success, and Speedsport has scores of race victories under its belt including both 1996 and 1998 British Grand Prix F3 support race wins with Darren Manning at the wheel of our Dallara 396 machine. More recently our immaculate Merlyn Formula Fords have proved the cars to beat with two wins at the 2103 Silverstone Classic, and Mike's son Michael following in dad's footsteps and scoring a superb win recently at the International Trophy meeting, Silverstone May 2014.
Our corporate hospitality knowledge is immense with Mike being a great innovator of this type of package long before it was fashionable, and we carry this expertise and commitment into the operation of our two Silverstone Woodcote hospitality suites today.
We have enjoyed a twenty year relationship with the UK operation of tesa tapes and have promoted and sold their products into motor racing since 1993. We currently are one of tesa's most successful distributors, with virtually all the major F1 teams and professional racing teams across a multitude of categories within our customer base.
Finally after a lifetime of collecting motor racing memorabilia from the 'golden' era of the sport, we opened the Speedsport Gallery [which also has its own website] to sell the highest quality original paintings, posters, photographs and autographed items by the likes of Jim Clark, Graham Hill, Mike Hawthorn and many other iconic drivers.
