Successful start to 2016 season

The Speedsport Historic Racing Team, competing as Classic Team Merlyn in the Historic Formula Ford Championship, got off to a great start at Castle Combe recently.
Team Drivers Mark Shaw and Benjamin Tusting qualified on pole and third positions respectively for their races. Mark took the lead, and despite some fierce dicing held on to take an exciting victory by the smallest of margins.
Ben was over eager at the start of his race and received a ten second penalty which would have deterred a lesser driver, however he disputed the lead with ex champ Callum Grant and the pace was so fast that he was over ten seconds ahead of third place man at the finish, so scored a deserved second position finish. Fastest lap and a new lap record was consolation for the potential win which was lost.
Next race is at Silverstone on May 21st. and we will be hoping for a hat trick of wins at this meeting on home ground as Michael O'Brien was victorious in 2104 as was Richard Mitchell in 2015.
Classic Team Merlyn will be adding their car later this season once the rebuild is complete following Mark Draghicesu's crash last October.
